Quarantine Special (Choose from 4 single origin coffees)

As a profound turn-of-the-century poet declared, “I don’t need your kiss or hug, I just chug-o-lug my coffee mug.” Let those seemingly prescient words bring us comfort as we’re asked to distance ourselves from the touch of family and friends. Bring close a warm cup of coffee, brewed from freshly-roasted specialty coffee beans, in this time of obligatory human distance.

We’re offering five single-origin coffees (including a decaf), each for the same Quarantine Special price (12oz. and 20oz. sizes available in backyard compostable bags).

Guatemala Cubulco | Ethiopia Guji Guracho (SOLD OUT!) | Tanzania Mbinga/Mbeya | Guatemala Cafetores SWP Decaf  Scroll down for details on each coffee.

Coffee will be shipped whole bean unless specified otherwise in notes at checkout (please indicate brew method if requesting ground).

Despite our readiness, our long-awaited roastery and caffe grand opening will be waited upon for a little longer. But with the roaster up and roasting we’re excited to still be able to offer our freshly-roasted coffee at a quarantine special price delivered directly to your mailbox. Because being stuck inside is bad enough; without good coffee is just … let’s not even talk about it.

We’re taking all the proper precautions at the roastery as we roast, bag and ship.

We have three single origin coffees to offer, including a decaf:

Guatemala Cubulco

Cubulco is a small town right in the center of Guatemala. The various small farms that contribute to this coffee offering are in the mountains nearby, including as Anonas, Las naranjas, La esperanza, Grano de Oro, Finca las Piedras and other small farms. Many of the farmers also grow other crops such as beans and corn for their own consumption.

This coffee is for the coffee drinker not looking for any flair; just a solid, dark chocolatey, well-balanced cup of coffee.

Ethiopia Guji Guracho (G1) (SOLD OUT!)

Our Guracho Guji comes from the Kercha Washing Station in Guracho. The station is owned by the Hambela Washing Station which works with local farmers to improve quality and productivity.

The Kercha Washing Station and its parent company, Hambela, have been supplying coffee to the auction for over 20 years, but they were only established as a coffee exporter in 2014.

The Guji region is named for one of the tribes of the Oromo and is one of the administrative zones of the Oromia region. The zone was created in 2002 when the uplands of Borena zone were split to create it. The Guji region enjoys ideal coffee growing conditions. Its volcanic soil is bursting with nutrients, creating deep red and brown top-layer of soil. The regions’ high altitude, bi-modal rainfall pattern and dry weather allow for the cherries to develop slowly.

This lot is a blend of AB coffees from some of the strongest coops in Tanzania’s Mbinga and Mbeya regions. The Iyenga Cooperative currently has 172 smallholder members and a combined production of 45 metric tons of green coffee.

Iyenga took 1st place in the 2018-19 Tanzania Coffee Board Taste of Harvest Competition. Mwalyego Cooperative was registered in 1993 and currently has 164 farmers producing an average of 35-40 metric tons.  In 2018 Mwalyego took 6th place in the 2018-19 Tanzania Taste of the Harvest competition. Kimuli Cooperative was started in 1993 serving nine villages with three washing stations.

Guatemala Cafeteros Swiss Water Process Decaf

We were pleasantly surprised by this decaf at the cupping table (post-roast tasting). It has the body and complexity of a coffee we’d be apt to enjoy regardless of its caffeine content. It comes from Antiguan estates and small holders in the Huehuetenango region of Guatemala and was decaffeinated with a chemical-free process by Swiss Water.
